Real-Time VOC Data Enables Aeroparts Bleed Air Study

What's that smell in the cabin air of your airplane?  The exhaust smell that you may have noticed while sitting on a runway is from VOCs present in bleed air system in the airplane engine that have not been filtered out by an upstream device prior to entering into the environmental control system.  One solution the industry is exploring is the use of VOC ozone converters which have the potential of removing these volatile compounds before they enter the cabin.  The problem has been understanding how the various VOC ozone converters differ in performance and their expected outcome for adopting airlines.  This video describes the bleed air study led by AeroParts to characterize performance of the ozone converters.  See how SIFT-MS provided real-time VOC data for this important study.
