Who we are
Alex Fala has deep experience as a leader in some of New Zealand's most well known growth companies, particularly in the technology sector. Alex's most recent role was CEO of global retail software company Vend. Prior to Vend, Alex was an executive at Les Mills International, Orion Health and Trade Me and a consultant at McKinsey & Company.
Alex attended Oxford University as the second Rhodes Scholar of Pacific Island descent. He has a first class honours degree from the University of Auckland, and was selected as one of the university's inaugural '40 under 40'. Alex is married to Clare with three children.
Nicole began her career at PwC in the audit financial services division before moving to Westpac, specialising in commercial banking and product development. She spent six years banking, both here in NZ and in London. While in London she worked in the retail investment arm for Barclays bank and lead the VDR on a trade sale for RBS as a part of their government bailout deal.
On returning home, she moved to Christchurch to join the Syft team as CFO, where she has spent her time navigating the business through major growth.
Aaron has broad operations leadership experience in innovative Kiwi businesses with global presence. Aaron has been a Global Supply Chain Director at NZX and ASX-listed technology company EROAD. Prior to that, Aaron was a Global Operations Director in NZX-listed Methven for over 5 years where he led significant improvements in efficiency, quality and safety on the path to the successful acquisition of Methven.
This wide business experience also has seen Aaron operate in a number of industries, including medical devices and Telco, as well as working and running overseas operations.
A graduate from the University of California, Santa Barbara with a B.S. in Cell and Developmental Biology Damien spent his first few years’ postgrad working in laboratories. He then joined Agilent Technologies as a Field Service Engineer in their chromatography and mass spectrometry division.
Jihoon was born in Korea and graduated in chemistry from the National University in Korea. His early work was in research and development in gas chromatography, including work on Korea’s first thermal desorption system which was then commercialized. At Samsung he worked on a Micro contamination monitoring system before moving to sales.
In 2014 Jihoon joined Syft as a distributor and assisted with the development of applications for the semiconductor industry and for environmental research. In 2018, Jihoon became Syft’s Asia Sales Director and is General Manager of the Korean office.
Dr. Daniel Milligan
Daniel started his career as a kineticist; his PhD was studying ion-molecule chemistry and SIFT-MS with Professor McEwan, after which he did a post-doctoral fellowship at CalTech/NASA/JPL in Pasadena, California. He returned to SIFT-MS and Syft via a University of Canterbury postdoctoral fellowship in 2003.
Daniel's interests have always centered around instrumentation and he now heads the Development and Engineering efforts of Syft. His path to this role has not always been direct however going by way of applications development, support, and a stint as VP Technology for Syft in Cleveland, Ohio.
Rose graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Satellite Electronics Engineering.
With over 20 years of experience in managing product development teams across multiple high tech segments, Rose has held senior leadership positions in Panasonic Electronic Devices, optical touch screen company Next Window, and Panasonic Systems Solution(Asia Pacific). Having spent 12 years overseas working for international companies, she is passionate about delivering innovative, advanced engineering solutions to market.

The pioneer of SIFT-MS technology
This groundbreaking technique emerged out of investigations of ion chemistry in the Earth’s atmosphere, and other planetary atmospheres, and was developed further at the University of Canterbury in New Zealand. In 2002, Syft Technologies was formed, providing sufficient funding to take this academic research into a fully developed commercial solution.
