We sat down with David Light, CEO and Founder of Valisure, to discuss his experience with SIFT-MS. He shared how it has advanced projects and research done at Valisure through it providing faster and more accurate data than legacy methods. He also mentioned the exceptional levels of support provided by the Syft team to ensure Valisure's success.
What impressed you most about the capabilities of SIFT-MS when you evaluated it as an option for your organization?
“Syft was just such an obvious technological platform for us to investigate. The unique capabilities of Syft really stood out to us, and that's why we started working again.
What impressed me most about the Syft technology platform was the real-time detection nature which is really helpful and allows us to investigate real world situations that we wouldn't be able to otherwise. Then, of course, the ability to detect directly from air was huge. That was the primary reason we first got interested in Syft's unique capability to look at that and do it with very high precision and specificity. It was very powerful for us.”
What is the biggest impact to your business that you’ve observed since incorporating SIFT-MS into your workflow?
“So a study that we've recently published at Valisure that incorporated analytical capabilities, and something that some of the Syft personnel collaborated with us on, was actually looking at fencing contamination in dry shampoos. So, again allowing us to look at potential real-use scenarios in terms of what an acute exposure from a contaminated spray can look like when it essentially hits somebody's face, to how it may raise the entire baseline level of benzene in an area like a small bathroom.
We're kind of expecting we might be missing some of the gaseous product when you're trying to get an aerosol spray into a solvent and a GCMS vile that's sample preparation may very well be losing us some of that product, some of that Benzene. Which could lead to underestimating the Benzene levels. Looks like Syft, that's measuring direct, no sample prep directly out of the air, is enabling us to see what could be a more accurate picture of the total amount of benzene in these products. Which could be somewhere around 10 to times higher.”
Would you consider purchasing additional instruments based on your experience using your SIFT-MS system?
“We're very interested in purchasing further instruments of Syft technology as the demand and the impact of this kind of analysis continues to grow. It really offers a lot of unique capabilities in terms of an analysis direct from air. The real time capability is extremely useful, and it's honestly a very easy and straightforward machine to use.
It's really been a pleasuring interact with and I think is not just a very powerful system, but a very easy to use and scalable system from academic to industry.”
