Wastewater odor control can be dramatically improved by employing SIFT-MS to identify odor sources more rapidly and accurately than conventional methods. SIFT-MS provides detection and quantification of a wide range of potential odorants to below, or close to, the human odor detection threshold (ODT). SIFT-MS delivers comprehensive, quantitative profiling of odor sources and can identify operational abnormalities. In particular, the results presented in our latest application note demonstrate that methyl mercaptan is almost always a more significant odorant at the wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) examined than hydrogen sulfide and confirms that the relative abundances of these odorants vary significantly.
