Chairman
Al has extensive governance and business experience. He currently sits on the Boards of 3 high-tech companies, as Chair of Foster Moore (business registries, including the NZ Companies Office), Chair of Spidertracks (rotary and fixed wing aircraft tracking) and Chair of eStar (eCommerce). He is a past Director of Callaghan Innovation, the New Zealand Government crown entity responsible for growing the R&D investment of New Zealand’s high value manufacturing and services companies and administering R&D grants. He was Chair of the Grants Committee and was also on the Audit and Risk Committee of Callaghan Innovation. He is also a past Trustee of the New Zealand Hi-Tech Trust.
Al Monro is also Chairman of the Board and a shareholder of Wanaka-based Tarras Cherry Corporation, an orchard holding company with a 35-hectare, 24,000 tree orchard in the Ardgour Valley. His business experience includes 18 years at IBM (National Sales Manager on departure) and having been Chief Executive of optical touch screen company NextWindow from start-up in 2002 until acquisition by NASDAQ-listed Smart Technologies in 2011. During that period the business grew from two employees and no revenue to in excess of 140 staff and US$46m in sales. Since leaving Smart Technologies in late 2011, Al has been working with expansion-stage technology companies as an advisor and/or director helping them put strategies in place to grow globally. Al and his wife Andrea have lived in Wanaka since 2017. Al holds a Bachelor of Law degree from Canterbury University.

Michael and his family are foundation Shareholders of Syft. Michael has worked in Corporate and Commercial banking and finance for 37 years, the last 13 as a partner in a private finance company specialising in working capital – Pacific Invoice Finance which supported Syft financially up until 31 March 2013.
Michael was part of an independent advisory board to Syft set up in April 2011 and has been involved regularly with Syft and its board on an on-going basis. As part of that role Michael travelled to Europe, USA and Asia initially to meet with Syft’s key Staff, Distributors and Clients.

Professor McGrath is currently Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Vice-President (Research) at the University of Technology Sydney. In this role Kate provides the vision and leadership to build UTS’s national and international profile in research training, external research engagement and innovation. She is responsible for the strategic direction, operations and support of research across the university.
With an extensive background in research and the translation and commercialisation of research and IP-led research partnerships with industry, Professor McGrath was previously Vice-Provost (Research) at Victoria University of Wellington and led the MacDiarmid Institute for Advanced Materials and Nanotechnology, a New Zealand Centre of Research Excellence.
Professor McGrath has been a director of university start-ups, not for profits and Callaghan Innovation, the New Zealand Government’s innovation Crown entity.

David joined Ampersand as an Operating Partner in 2015, and leads Ampersand’s Portfolio Acceleration Team™. He is Chairman of Alliance Pharma and joined the Board of Syft Technologies in April 2022. Previously, David was Chairman/CEO of Advion Interchim Scientific, and CEO of Advion, sold to Bohui Innovation Technology in 2015. He served as a Board member of Gyros Protein Technologies, sold to Mesa Labs in 2019. David also served as CEO of Advion BioSciences, a bioanalytical CRO business acquired by Quintiles Transnational in 2011, and CEO of Biotage, which was acquired by Pyrosequencing AB in 2003. David holds two separate B.S. degrees from The University of Richmond and Virginia Polytechnic Institute, and completed an International Management program through IMD in Lausanne, Switzerland.

Jeff has worked in a variety of businesses during his career, including six years as a management consultant with PricewaterhouseCoopers in New Zealand, Singapore and the United States, and three years with Mobil Oil in New Zealand and the United Kingdom.
He joined Air New Zealand in 2000 and was appointed Chief Financial Officer in January 2018. Prior to this position he held a range of senior commercial and finance roles within Air New Zealand including Group General Manager Corporate Finance where he was responsible for Corporate Finance, Treasury, Fleet Strategy and Investor Relations; and Group General Manager Commercial, with responsibility for Pricing, Revenue Management and Ancillary Revenue.
Jeff served as Acting Chief Executive Officer of Air New Zealand for four months from September 2019 to February 2020.
He has a Bachelor of Commerce and Administration from Victoria University, is a member of Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand and a certified member of the Institute of Finance Professionals NZ.
